There are many things you can do and learn to beautify your voice and improve your recitation. However the first place to start and one of the best things you can do is give thanks to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala for the voice that He has already blessed you with, and for giving you His book to recite.

Often we take our voice for granted and forget to give thanks to Allah – yet He subhanahu wa ta’ala tells us that this is the surest way to a greater share of His blessings: “And remember when your Lord proclaimed: ‘If you give thanks, I will surely give you more’” (Surah Ibrahim, ayah 7).

Think about it: There are those who either can’t speak at all or have some sort of a speech disorder or impairment. Then there are those who have amazing voices, but choose to use their voices to sing about the vulgar and profane. Alhamdulillah, Allah has blessed you with your voice and has inclined your heart towards recitation of His book. Shouldn’t you be grateful for that?

As you’re gearing up for Ramadan, remember to give thanks for your voice and include in your dua the ability to recite the Quran beautifully as it was meant to be recited.

I pray that Allah blesses you in your recitation, and makes it a means for a greater connection with Him.
